Zoo

On Veteran's day we went to the zoo. They have a sky ride there that we rode up the mountain on. Tanner was scared to ride on it and so was Amelia. Once we started going though they realized that it does not go fast. The kids played on the monkey bars, climbed the rock wall, and laughed at my attempt to climb as well. We rode back down and fed the giraffe's, Amelia was afraid at first. But she ended up laughing. They seemed to like eating from her the most. The kids loved seeing the Lion pace back and forth, and some kind of monkey making loud noises. I loved being able to have family time with all of us together.

Halloween

Ben went to Utah for the blessings of his twin niece over Halloween weekend so I was left to do the scary make up myself. I think it turned out pretty well considering that it is usually Ben's thing. The older three had a birthday Halloween party to go to that night. It was so fun just to have one kid again to take trick or treating. People were giving Amelia handfuls of candy because they thought she was so cute!!! Amelia loved handing out the treats more when we got home. Abbie, Nicholas, and Tanner came home with lots of candy as well, then we stayed up and watched a Halloween movie on the Disney Channel. The older two were the only ones that lasted until the end of the movie.

Ben's First Pack meeting

In October Ben was called to be the Cub Scout Master. He is excited to be able to spend this time with Nicholas and teach them some of his skills. At this Pack meeting the boys made masks out of paper bags and put on a skit. The parents couldn't tell who was who so when they were done we had them tale their masks off for pictures. If you look closely the name are ones only boys would do!!!

Uncle Deny's Visit

Ben's Uncle Deny came to visit us at the beginning of October. He took the kids to the creek while I finished getting ready. I told the ids not to get in the water. proof that Uncle Deny is a softy!!! Then we went to the Air Force homecoming game, Ben had to work at the game so we wandered around and let the kids play on various things. Then we went to the Visitor center and hiked up to the Air Force chapel. I love living by mountains again it is so beautiful. We also went to the Garden of the God's. The kids had so much fun climbing on the rocks and squeezing in the cracks of rock. We had so much fun thanks for coming Uncle Deny.Sept. 27th weekend

Mr. Biggs

While Ben was in Ecuador I tried to keep the kids busy so they wouldn't drive me crazy. I went to Mr. Biggs with my friend Claudine and we were there all day long. From 10 until 7 that night, the kids didn't have school that day so we had to get out. The cute pictures of the kids face paintings were done by the really good artist who could have covered herself up better for a kids place. Good thing she told the kids to look away from her as she painted their cheeks. Just a little side note Amelia LOVES Tinkerbell, anything to do with that fairy and she wants it. She would not let me wash her face off for three days. Yes she even took baths and showers and that little beauty stayed there on her cheek.

So one Sunday I decided to put sponge curlers in Amelia's hair, she looked in the mirror and laughed at herself. the picture on the bench is whit the curlers in and her purple boot saying, "I am ready for church mom." When I took them out and ran through the curls with my fingers she kept saying, "I so pretty mom." To they don't always keep that self confidence. The curls stayed in for a very long time and yes I think she looked very pretty too. Abbie looked very pretty as well.

Heber City Family Reunion

We had so much fun at the family reunion. These are just a small amount of the pictures. There were so many fun activities, hiking, night games, crafts, boats and a talent show. Tanner met the family he wants to be adopted into, or just live with. That would be Marty and Jannie's family. Nicholas and his cousin Spencer went on a canoe all by themselves. Tanner went on the challenge course and did the zip line. Abbie had fun with cousins her age, and Amelia enjoyed the freedom of being outdoors. We stayed in awesome cabins, had great food and made great memories. Grandma and Grandpa would be so proud!!!

The Itsy Bitsy Spider

This is what I found out side my door the other day. The spider was there and no web. Next morning here is this elaborate web. Kind of creepy, Ben will be moving its location so it won't be moving in with us. Amelia is terrified to go out the front door now. I know a couple people if they were her would not go out the front door either.

So I have to admit I am kind of hesitant to be writing this, but I am hoping as I do I can look back and learn and help myself along. I have been living with MS for over four years now. These past couple of years I have been really struggling with taking my shots that are supposed to slow down the progression of the disease. With it only being 40% effective and the highest effective shot out there maybe it can be understood. Besides some of the side effects are pretty uncomfortable. In April I had another yearly MRI if there is anymore lesions on my brain or spine, when I got the results back I was pretty upset. With being told the year before that I only had five and now I have clearly five and many more it was a big shock. I know that there many others out there that live with this most of the time silent disease and do it very gracefully. I have been trying to do the same, but I do have days that I just want to scream at how unfair it is. Then in the quiet moments I remember praying and having the confirmation that I knew this would be one of my struggles in life and that i don't have to be alone it. I have noticed things changing though, like my ability to remember things, and keep my thoughts together, so basically my cognitive abilities. but through these struggles and many many more I have prayed and come to the conclusion that I need to take my shots again and be diligent in doing it. With things coming up in my family I really have this urgent burning to get myself as healthy as I can. Heavenly Father has blessed me though and moved me from the HOT Texas heat to the cooler heat of Colorado. He has helped me to realize that there is always hope, and that everybody has harder struggles in their lives this just happens to be mine. SO my goals are, to exercise at least three times a week even if I just have to walk slowly on the treadmill, laugh at myself more instead of beating myself up for the things I can not do anymore, enjoy the things I can do with my family, know my limits and not push them, and to take my shots everyday. My purpose in writing this is so I can come and read it at a later date and remind myself of how far i have come and that I can do it. I am done feeling sorry for myself and I wan to move on. With the Lords help and many angels that come across my path I know that I will be blessed.

When we were in Utah last we were able to go to the temple open house. Amelia was especially excited, every room we went in she would say so pretty and shhh be quiet. The other kids were very excited to go as well and couldn't believe they actually got to go inside. Hopefully it is something they will never forget. I know I won't.

For this month I have a Young Woman in our ward who is trying to earn some money for when she goes to Germany next month, come and help with some cleaning. It benefits me and her at the same time. Well my boys and their friend that I am watching have developed a crush on her...I found this out yesterday, and any time her name is mentioned they all get goofy smiles on their faces. She came today and i caught the boys watching her dreamily on the first step wile she scrubbed the floor. I had to teach them a quick lesson in respect, asking her if they could give her a hug ;) Tanner was declared the old man because he got the most hugs, the other two were just men. They went outside and came back in and brought her some flowers, and Tanner also brought her a rock. She is very good about it and laughs and thinks it is cute. But it was a handful keeping them out of the way so that we could clean. She will be here again tomorrow and the boys are thrilled, So here is to CLAIRE for making the boy's summer!!!!

Our Surprise Visit

My mom and sisters decided to surprise me and came out to our house. They helped me unpack boxes, get my house organized more and oh did I say unpack boxes. We went shopping, to the cheesecake factory, stayed up late laughing, and even found time to ride some horses!!! I am so lucky to have a mom and sisters who care about me to come and help me out even though I didn't tell them I needed it. They also helped lift my spirits out of the foggy funk that I was in. Love you guys so much thanks!!!

When Brianna was here at the first of April she left Ben a present. We want out on a date, she was babysitting and came up with something for the kids to do. They used all the packing paper that was in the garage and stuffed it everywhere in Ben's car. Yes even in the trunk!!! She wrote him a note to make sure he would take it as a joke, I don't know how you couldn't... But we all had a good laugh. Ben finally cleaned out the rest of the paper last weekend. At least we know they weren't fighting while we were gone :)

A couple of weeks ago the Air Force Academy had a Family Fun Day. Home Depot was on of the sponsors and brought everything to make bird houses. The best part was that it was totally free... not to mention the workers who volunteered to help the kids hammer in nails. They had a great time, Amelia was so excited to use the Handy Manny tools!!! In case people don't know Home Depot does a kids building on the first Saturday of every month from 9-12 absolutely free!!!

Leprechauns

So far all three of my kids have had some fun on St. Patrick's day in Kindergarten. It started with Abbie, the Leprechauns would pull nasty tricks on them. Took all their pencils and even tied all their chairs together. Nicholas experienced pretty much the same thing, the Leprechauns mixed up all their crayons, hid there papers. They even got to name this Leprechaun, I think he said they named him Fred.

Well the excitement has continued this year. Except in Tanner's class the Leprechauns haven't done naughty things to the classroom until maybe today. You see these little Kindergartners were asked to make a trap for the Leprechauns. So between Tanner his daddy and Nicholas this is what they came up with, stay tuned to know if they caught a Leprechaun!!!

An update, sadly the Leprechauns were to smart and tricky for Tanner and the other kindergartners. Tanner said that the Leprechaun made a mess in the classroom and there were even footprints in the toilet!!!

A month full of events

I look back and realized I haven't posted anything since we moved. Our camera broke so the only pictures I had taken were from my cell phone. I finally figured out how to get them onto my computer without Ben's help...

Anyway we mad it all the way out to Trinidad, CO and the truck broke down. Luckily we were only two hours away. But unlucky that we had to unload and rearrange kids and stuff so we could drive the car and leave the truck. Just as we were coming over Pikes Peak I realized that there were snow clouds in the sky. The temperature dropped to 9 and it was snowing. The kids were so excited when we got here but quickly realized that snow means cold. Amelia just kept saying brrr cold mommy. The kids started school 3 days later then the next week we all got sick. I think it is finally out of our house.

The short of it all is that we love our house and love looking out the windows and seeing mountains.

Our first week in our new house I took the kids to get a hair cut. They all got one except for Tanner. I have to say that I was a proud mom when Abbie decided to cut all 10 or 12 inches (I can't remember) of her hair and donate it to Locks of Love. She also got a free hair cut and a great feeling knowing that her hair would help some one else out.

A post so I can remember...
Ben and I just couldn't make up our minds if we were going to the Beach House with his family in Imperial beach or not. We even were praying about it, I know it sounds crazy who wouldn't want to go on a family vacation right. Well we just were not sure about the timing of it. Any way we got a phone call the Sunday before we were to leave that Ben's Grandmother Jean had fallen and was in the hospital. After Ben talked to the doctors and to his Grandfather it was decided that she was not going to make it and the the machines were keeping her alive. So the choice was out of our hands and we knew we had to go.
Ben's Grandmother Jean was a wonderful lady. Her and Ed (Ben's Grandfather) had been married for 30 years. He had just bought her a grandfather clock for their anniversary last February. The kids and I were able to visit with them last year on our trip to San Diego, on our way home they came out to San Antonio and saw Ben at work and then came and saw our house. She was suffering from kidney failure and was in a lot of pain for a long time. I know that she is in a better place now, But I also know how much we all miss her.
SO the kids and I found ourselves loaded in the van Nov. 1st... yes the day after Halloween and I did say the kids and I, for the long 18 hr drive to Imperial beach. No I am not crazy, well maybe I am now, but the kids did great.
We got to a hotel in Yuma, AZ and the had no port a cribs left. I was so exhausted that I moved a chair and blocked off the little walk way between the bathroom. put some pillows and a sheet down and Amelia. Cute little Nicholas was so concerned about her being by herself that he went and laid by her and told her stories until they were both asleep. I don't know who was asleep first out of those two, but I am sure I was the first asleep in the whole room. In the morning we woke up and Nicholas said that he sang to her and read to her and she took my blanket... We made it there safe.
Ben flew out on Tuesday and was able to see his family and have a great visit with all of them including his Grandpa Bates. The only other hic up in the way before Ben arrived was on Monday. We all walked down to the pier to get some Ice Cream Grammy's treat. On the way there pa pa Bob was telling Nicholas how he liked Rocky Road Ice Cream. So wanting to be like him that is what he ordered. He had a couple licks and a bite and started to complain. a very long story short rocky road ha mixed nuts in it and just so happened that one kind was cashews. Nicholas is very allergic to cashews, so after choking a little and then complaining that his chest hurt we found this out and took off running. I tried to hold him and run but that wasn't working. So I put him down and he started to cry and said, " Mom am I gonna die because I don't have the epi pen?" Poor guy, his uncle Dan came to the rescue and picked him up and we ran tot the beach house to get Benydryl. We ran and ran I swear it was like ten miles, no just kidding but it seemed like it. Good thing at the last minute I packed the Benydryl, after two doses he was fine. Thank you so much Dan for having muscles to run with him in your arms so I could run ahead.

I wanted to post something about my cute baby. I know she is not very small anymore, but to me she is still my baby. She loves to go bye - bye, like to talk on the "hello" (phone), likes to buckle in, loves her baby, loves "wapples" (wafles), nacks, loves to go down the "weeeee" (slide), loves books, will play peek a boo with anyone willing, and loves to sing especially in sacrament meeting. Two of her fears are bubble baths and koosh balls!!

She has a very easy going personality and loves her mama. She runs and greets daddy when he gets home from work. Amelia also loves her brothers and sisters. She runs to keep up with them, and loves to play games with them. We are so blessed to have our little bebe in our family.

Monday was Columbus day here in the good old USA but in Canada it was Thanksgiving. Jennie heard me talking about this and took the kids out Monday morning and got al the trimmings to have a great Thanksgiving dinner. We had Karen and her kids over as well. It was a short day at school on Friday. So we had to think of something fun for the kids to do, and some place that we haven't been to. We decided to go to Mcallister Park with our friends the Donaldson's and the Schole's. You can't have a fun park day with out some gret park pals to go with you. The first picture is of Amelia and Lila. The next is of Amelia wanting me to take a ictue of her. the Third is Amelia seeing all the fun things to play on. Abbie and Jacob getting a drinkof water. Amelia and Lila going down the slide together. Amelia LOVE"S Lila and looks for her every morning when she wakes up. The big kids had fun exploring in the forest and making huts. They also had some pretty tall tales to tell about how they saw a bear (a car)and how they got lost... But we all had a fun time :)

Hero's Of The Day

The day after the stuff was brought back from Galveston Jennie and I unloaded the truck and trailer by ourselves onto my front lawn. Her husband was at work and mine was very sick from the trip. We were chugging along and then realized how fast the day was really going. My Relief Society Pres. just happened to stop by. She saw how much stuff there was and called my Visiting Teacher and asked her to organize some people to come and get the six or seven bags of laundry. She then suggested that I call the missionaries. To our awesome surprise and luck they had just got out of a zone confrence. There just happened to be six elders there with them. They were at my house in about tne minutes ready to help us pack up the boxes and load everything back on the trailor. Can I just say that to us two very tired disheveld looking woman we were very happy for their help. A job that would have taken us until after dark to complete took an hour and a half. We heard no complaints at all. So this is a shout out to the missionaries and the sisters in my ward who came to our rescue... Words can not express how greatful we are for your help. I have been moved to tears many times lately at the out pouring of love and service people have shown to Jennie and Rich. It is awesome!!! So to all of you Thank You!!!! Let me just add as well that usually with my health I would have been laid flat the next day or two after all the work we did, but the Lord has blessed me as well and I have been fine. I was able to work just as hard the next day.

Hurricane IKE

Our good friends from Galeveston Jennie and Rich came to stay with us when hurricane Ike hit. It took two weeks for them to be able to get back on the island to see what Ike left behind for them. Ben drove them down in "Blue" (our red neck truck). All of their things that they were able to keep fit in the back of the truck and a small u-haul trailer. They are satying with us until they can move back and LOVE having them here. The kids are never bored and the house is never quiet until late at night. But I am so happy that they are safe.

Run off The Road

I had the unfortunate event of being run of the road last Saturday. After following the culprate and talking to her she basically told me that S@#$ happens and that is why you have insurance. Well now the police and my insurance company have her info!! Cause guess what lady that is why YOU have insurance. Now explain to the six kids in my van that day why we couldn't go swimming. I am still waiting to get it back. With the extras in the house right now I really miss my van!!!

So Bob and I took the boys to get a creepy crawly book at Barnes and Noble. When we were done it was his awesome idea to go to Cold Stone and get ice cream. I would never turn Cold Stone down... But while we were there we decided to get Ben one as well. Here is what happens in hot wheather and driving home with Ice Cream. We were laughing so hard on our 15min drive home. Bob could barely enjoy his Ice cream and could do nothing about Ben's but let it drip...

Ten years ago: I was 21. Ben and I were getting ready to celebrate our first anniversary. We were both going to school at the University of Utah and living at the U of U village. Ben also had just had jaw surgery and reovered very quickly. We went on our first FAMILY vacation with his family.

Five thing's on today's to do list:

1. Clean house

2. Take kids to piano lessons

3. Catch up on laundry. (it never ends)

4. Keep my kids entertained in this horrible heat

5. Relax at bedtime the best time of the day :)

Yes we had another graduation. Ben and is friends graduated form their internship. It was two and a ahlf hours of name reading. Blah Blah Blah!! But I am so glad that he is done. I am Proud of you Babe!
